Creative Sciences and Innovations Program
Transforming Theory into Technology
Transforming Theory into Technology
The Creative Sciences and Innovations Program addresses Uganda's critical need for practical, hands-on skills that match labor market demands.
The Education Gap
Uganda is stuck with a colonial education system that trains scholars to be teachers, clerks, lawyers, and counselors - yet times have changed. The country needs:
- Metal fabricators
- Carpenters
- Mechanics
- Drivers
- Scientists and technologists
- Agricultural innovators
Our Approach: Creative Sciences
Students and pupils need to be equipped with financial skills and practical innovations to solve Uganda's problems like:
- Climate change
- Unemployment (80% rate)
- Poverty
- Food insecurity
What We Teach
1. Modern Agriculture
- Genetically modified and multipurpose tree species (avocados, mangoes, oranges, lemons, guavas, jack fruits, paw-paw)
- Fast-growing species offering economic and environmental benefits
- Cheap irrigation methods
- Drought-resistant crop species
- Climate-change-resistant farming practices
2. Value Addition & Innovation
- Fruit processing and winemaking (research led by Sheilla Ninsiima)
- Recycling plastic bottles into life-saving jackets
- Using agricultural waste for briquette making
- Local manufacturing and fabrication
3. STEMACFEP Skills
- Science
- Technology
- Engineering
- Mathematics
- Agriculture
- Computing
- Financial Literacy Management
- Environment Protection
Holiday Skilling Programs
Compulsory holiday apprenticeships from Baby Class to University where students:
- Acquire hands-on practical skills
- Gain workplace experience
- Build confidence and work ethic
- Develop entrepreneurial mindset
- Create networks in various industries
The "Lifeboat" Philosophy
We view education in Uganda as a "Titanic Ship" and complementary vocational hands-on skills as lifeboats, belts, and jackets attached to this ship.
When the ship is sinking (can't find formal employment), passengers can rely on the boats and jackets (practical skills and saved finance) to pave way to safety - making a living despite unemployment.
"Nothing, absolutely nothing is as important and potent as developing a culture of complementing vocational hands-on skills with minds-on skills and financial saving. It is as healthy to a learner as maintaining proper oil and petrol level is to an automobile."
Current Innovations
- Life jackets from recycled plastic bottles and used fishing nets
- Fruit wine and value-added agricultural products
- Biomass briquette making for clean energy
- Appropriate technology for small-scale entrepreneurs
Target Outcomes
By 2030-2040, substantially increase the number of youth and adults with relevant skills for:
- Employment in existing jobs
- Creating new job opportunities
- Decent work and fair wages
- Entrepreneurship and business ownership
Building a culture among young generations to fight unemployment, poverty, and social-economic challenges!
