Maritime Safety & Environmental Protection
Saving Lives, Protecting Our Environment
About the Program
Our Maritime Safety program addresses two critical issues: water safety and environmental protection through innovative technology.
The Innovation
We have developed affordable life-saving jackets made from recycled plastic soda bottles. This innovation:
- Provides affordable safety equipment to fishing communities
- Reduces plastic waste in our environment
- Creates local manufacturing jobs
- Saves lives in maritime communities
Community Impact
Maritime communities around Uganda's lakes often cannot afford expensive commercial life jackets. Our recycled solution makes water safety accessible to everyone while cleaning up our environment.
The Process
- Collection of used plastic bottles
- Processing and quality control
- Life jacket production
- Community distribution and safety training
Research led by Sheilla Ninsiima, Secretary General, finalizing research on life jackets made by recycling plastic bottles and used nets.
